How does ARC decide when to insert retain/release calls?

Compiler performs static analysis and inserts retain/release at ownership boundaries.

ARC analyzes variable lifetimes at compile time. It inserts retain when object is assigned to strong reference and release when it goes out of scope. Optimizations remove redundant calls.
